Campus Life in America Student Survey – Some
Commonly Asked Questions
Who is included in this survey?
A sample of about 40,000 current undergraduate students at six
different universities was initially contacted for this survey. The
sample includes students from all religious, socioeconomic,
geographic, and demographic backgrounds.
How did you get my name?
In 2004, your name was chosen from a list of degree-seeking
first year students supplied to the Princeton University study team
by each of the cooperating colleges and universities. You were
contacted for this follow-up survey as a result of participating in
the 2004 survey.
Who is funding this study?
The Ford Foundation has provided the funding for this study. The
foundation is one of the largest sponsors of higher education
research in the United States.
Is my participation required?
Your participation is completely voluntary. Although you may
skip over questions you prefer not to answer, we hope you will want
to answer every one. Your answers can represent hundreds of other
university students in the United States. Because of this, we take
great care to ensure as complete a response as possible, including
multiple mailings and telephone contacts.
Who will see my answers?
The answers you provide to this survey will be seen only by
members of the study team. These individuals are bound by the
conditions of the study to protect your privacy.
How will the results be used?
Your answers will be combined with those of all other survey
participants and presented in aggregate form as tables, charts, and
graphs. We expect to share our findings with the academic community
and the general public, again in aggregate form only, as a way of
improving the educational opportunities and experiences of future
generations of students.
How can I get more information about the study?
